A passionate group of ten friends has united under the name Miles to Miracles with one mission in mind: to fight pediatric cancer. Over the span of five months, they’ve set a goal—to raise $50,000 for Salood’s financial aid fund, which provides critical financial support to families in need during their childhood cancer journey.
To reach their goal and support over 100 families in need, the team is taking on two major fundraising challenges. First, on May 31st, three team members will compete in the Hawai’i IRONMAN 70.3, kicking off their campaign. From there, the entire group will host community training sessions and fun runs to build momentum and raise awareness.
The journey will culminate in August, when all ten members will come together to summit Mount Kilimanjaro. Through endurance, unity, and purpose, Miles to Miracles is turning miles into meaningful impact for families who need it most.
Annabelle Grace Bartel (AG) was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in 2019 and, after intense treatment, relapse, and multiple surgeries, is now 19 months cancer-free. She shares her story to spread the message: “You are loved and your life matters.”
Jake, a lifelong baseball player, was diagnosed with metastatic Ewing Sarcoma in 2023 after arm pain led to the discovery of a tumor. He completed chemotherapy and major surgery, and is now in remission—grateful, strong, and excited for what’s ahead.
Nathan is a graduate from the University of Oklahoma who enjoys traveling, climbing mountains, running races, and being with friends. Currently Nathan is training for both the Hawaii Ironman and climbing Kilimanjaro.
William is a graduate from the University of Oklahoma who loves spending time with his family and friends. In his free time William enjoys playing and watching sports as well as traveling.
He thrives on setting ambitious goals and pushing his limits through endurance sports.
Jack is a graduate from the University of Oklahoma who believes anything is possible if you set a goal and work to achieve it. Jack set out to run a marathon, without being able to run a mile. He believes that with enough discipline, he and his friends will be able to take on the challenge and succeed.
Luke, a University of Oklahoma graduate and fourth-year med student at OU College of Medicine plans to specialize in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and sees this fundraiser as a meaningful way to support families in need.
Jalen is a University of Oklahoma grad who loves traveling, hiking, Muay Thai, movies, and time with friends. He’s visited 13 countries across 4 continents and lived in New Zealand, gaining a global perspective that reminds him how connected we all are. As the stepbrother of a childhood cancer survivor, this mission is deeply personal and meaningful.
Sean is a University of Oklahoma grad whose love for photography, travel, and golf fuels his passion to fight cancer—a cause close to his heart. He's taking on this climb to honor the strength of children facing serious illness and to raise awareness and support for their journey.
Zach is a University of Oklahoma graduate who enjoys the outdoors and photography. Climbing Kilimanjaro, he honors those facing life's toughest battles, especially children with pediatric cancer. Through his partnership with Salood, Zach is proud to support these families and give back.
Jarred is a University of Oklahoma grad working in finance in Dallas. Passionate about music, travel, and backpacking, climbing Kilimanjaro is a long-time goal to push limits and inspire others. After raising money for a local hospital in college, Jarred eagerly joined Salood to make a meaningful impact again.
Andrew, a software engineer and University of Oklahoma grad in Dallas, enjoys traveling, gaming, and time with loved ones. Excited to take on this challenge with friends, he’s eager to push his limits while supporting a cause that makes a real difference.
David is a University of Oklahoma grad in sports entertainment and seasoned traveler with a passion for people and purpose. As the oldest in the group, he’s ready to lead the climb and continue his family’s legacy of giving, using meaningful challenges to leave the world better than he found it.
Get to know the team
The group of friends came together during their time at the University of Oklahoma, with many members relocating to North Texas after completing their undergraduate studies. University wasn’t the sole reason we found camaraderie amongst each other. Each of us shares a slight itch for the extreme and interesting. We are lucky enough to be in good health and want to use these adventurous desires to advocate for those who aren’t so fortunate. By partnering with Salood, we hope to bring relief and hope to those impacted by childhood cancer.
“Attacking cancer headfirst is a far greater feat than any Ironman or mountaineering expedition could bring forth, but by doing so, we can do our small part to show our full support and embrace the true warriors climbing life’s tallest mountain.” – Miles to Miracles Team
Salood warriors Annabelle Grace (AG) and Jake, both survivors of rare bone cancers that required intense treatment and major arm surgeries, are partnering with the Miles to Miracle team to help raise $50,000 for families impacted by childhood cancer. AG, a resilient Osteosarcoma warrior, and Jake, a determined Ewing Sarcoma warrior and baseball player, bring not only their powerful stories but also their passion for giving back. Together with the group, they will co-create customized merchandise, using their experiences and creativity to inspire others and help fund meaningful support for cancer families through Salood.
Hawai’i Ironman 70.3
The Hawai’i Ironman 70.3 will take place on May 31st on the Kona side of the Big Island. The race starts with a 1.2-mile swim through Pauoa Bay, a 56-mile bike ride along the coast and alongside lava fields, and a 13.1-mile run next to the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Jack Gutschenritter, Nathan Denson, and Will Carrey are taking on this imposing physical challenge together. They all have prior experience running a marathon, but swimming and biking are very new to each of them. They have been training hard since January and are excited to put all of their work to the test in late May.
Kilimanjaro
In late August, the entire Miles to Miracles team will embark on a unique journey across the globe: climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. The team of 10 will be going on an 8-day guided hike up to the summit via the Lemosho route. Each day will bring new physical and mental challenges, along with 7 distinct climates to hike through while reaching the top.
